Yaka danser

Here's a party which promised to be really hot, an after of after in the city of Montpellier, which is without any doubt one of the craziest place for the everlasting parties. Will make the trip with Czesky, more known as boss of Kiosk Club and with whom I have lots of bookings scheduled abroad in the upcoming months. See u there we'll spin on sunday night.

Yaka Route de Palavas Sortie Menestrelle 34000 Montpellier

Feel like home

In my young dj days I made a promise to myself : not to play in the bars ! To be a bar-dj is something I can't understand because you can't really play the music you want, the sound is not really loud and the people are here to have a drink or to chat and not for dancing, so there's no real pleasure to play.

The only exception I make is for the AtHome Café in Lille, it's in the city where I lived so it's easy and it's a great way to please my pals from here. I can share the turntable with a friend of my choice which is a great thing and most of all it's a bar dedicated to the electronic sounds with a great team and a boss I like to party with !

So see u there this friday, I'll play with my dear friend Pix from Alt_R from 7pm till 2

jeudi 2 avril 2009

You'd better ... stay

Here we are, the 4th track with Monoblok is now in the box. Entitled "Last Man Standing" and available in streaming on our Myspace Page : http://www.myspace.com/monoblokpussyselektor. We went deep but always mental for this one, hope u'll like it freakheadz !

My dear ...

Each month one track offered by Matthew dear under his pseudonym Audion, certainly the best electronic producer of these days, for free friends. The djs will not be forgotten as tracks will be out periodically on 3 trackers vinyls. At the end it will constitute a complete album so we'll all follow the construction of his upcoming LP, wonderfull idea for a wonderfull producer on a wonderfull label, Ghostly International !

All u hav' to do is registered on his website and give your email, each month the gift will be noticed by email : http://www.audion.me/

You may have noticed that it's rare on this blog to get djset to download, weird for a dj as I am but it could be explained easily by the fact that I listened a lot of livesets but really few blow my mind. Something 'bout thos little pills

THEY called it the second summer of love. Twenty years ago, young people all over the world donned T-shirts emblazoned with smiley faces and danced all night, fuelled by a molecule called MDMA. Most of these clubbers have since given up ecstasy and are sliding into middle age. The question is, has ecstasy given up on them?

Enough time has finally elapsed to start asking if ecstasy damages health in the long term. According to the biggest review ever undertaken, it causes slight memory difficulties and mild depression, but these rarely translate into problems in the real world. While smaller studies show that some individuals have bigger problems, including weakened immunity and larger memory deficits, so far, for most people, ecstasy seems to be nowhere near as harmful over time as you may have been led to believe.

When we were young

Definitely one of the best shows i've ever watched. Kids from Bristol in UK, their lives, their doubts & their relationships. All the mainthemes of the teenagers are treated as they should have always been, religion, drugs, death, homosexuality, love, ... All the actors play so just that's incredible, we're really really far of bullshits like "Save by the bell" !!!

Signaletik is in da place

So happy, after the digital release 15 days ago our 1st EP is now available on the vinyl format in all good shops ! Still strong supports from the techno scene, it seems that our release is hammered by some of the best djs !
Another good news, the 2nd EP is now available in streaming on our myspace page : http://www.myspace.com/signaletik.
Electric Rescue, boss of french label Skryptom delivered us 2 killer tracks, and as a cherry on the cake Julian Jeweil blew our mind with a remix which will certainely be played everywhere. Go to our myspace to listen to it, we hope to be in stores in February, stay tuned. Hereunder the release sheet :

After Darko Esser, the french label Signaletik Records persevere in a rude and dynamic techno sound by welcoming one of the proudest representant of the french electronic scene : Electric Rescue.
Boss of the infamous Parisian label, Skryptom, he offered us a definitely different and massive sound than usual with 2 exclusive tracks : « Rave Toy » & « Skull of the pirate ».
“Rave Toy” is a flashback in the 90’s illegal warehouse parties which ER attempted to and which forged his vision of electronic music. It’s definitely this culture which is reactualized here and remember on these days the smile(y) was the norm. A heavy and powerful kick, a snoring bass line, trippy synths and hedonistic breaks, at Signaletik Records office we all went up on our speakers and we sent our trainee in search of whistles.
Julian Jeweil, another real hope of France dance scene, signed a nervous and federator remix, a toy which is not to be put in innocent hands.
“Skull of the pirate”, just the time to sponge your forehead and change of T-shirt, Electric Rescue & Signaletik Records will hit with damages the dancefloors attracted by the dark and saturated ambience. In the same vein than “Rave Toy” this track under acid and full of synths will start the hostilities without any doubt, tented face, black glance and aggressiveness ready to destroy everything on its way. There will be no prisoners in the techno freaks community.

DV1 weekend !

A week end dedicated to DV1, one of the leading underground club of France. We'll be in Lyon with Czeski this friday and the day after we bring Herve AK, well known for his releases on Kompakt, and Unchi from the Requiem 45 crew @ Kiosk. It's gonna be a hell of a week end ! Be there !

No Fun

What a sad day, Ron Asheton, guitarist of The Stooges was found dead yesterday at home. This 60 years old genius was voted by Rolling Stones magazine 29th best guitarist of all times, true as he wrote some of the greatest riffs of rock n'roll in songs like "No Fun", "I Wanna Be Your Dog" & "TV Eye". Founded in 1967 in Detroit, The Stooges splitted in 1974 to reformed in 2003 for a new album which hitted the stores in 2007

The other bad news is about Florian Schneider, cofounder of Kraftwerk who announced last monday that he left the band. No reason given, Ralf will be alone now on stage.

Let's hope Paul Mc Cartney & Ringo Starr are doing fine ...

Year of reason ?

I was lookin' for a special thing for the start of the year to put on the blog, I could say that 2008 was good for me, lots of good things, gigs, crazy parties, nice encounters, launching of a label, some tracks on their way, a trip in NYC and ... a baby which is comin'. With all of that why not being positive ? Because it's simply not in my nature, as u know for me dark & weird are the keys.
So i decided to take the same comment as last year, it was the 1st one as I start this blog 1 year ago, 112 messages after i'm still there so just follow these nice advices from Thom & its crew

fitter / happier / more productive /comfortable / not drinking too much / regular exercise at the gym (3 days a week) / getting on better with your associate employee contemporaries / at ease /eating well (no more microwave dinners and saturated fats) / a patient better driver / a safer car (baby smiling in back seat) / sleeping well (no bad dreams) / no paranoia / careful to all animals (never washing spiders down the plughole) / keep in contact with old friends (enjoy a drink now and then) / will frequently check credit at (moral) bank (hole in wall) / favours for favours / fond but not in love / charity standing orders / on sundays ring road supermarket / (no killing moths or putting boiling water on the ants) / car wash (also on sundays) / no longer afraid of the darkor midday shadows / nothing so ridiculously teenage and desperate / nothing so childish /at a better pace / slower and more calculated / no chance of escape / now self-employed / concerned (but powerless) /an empowered and informed member of society (pragmatism not idealism) / will not cry in public / less chance of illness / tires that grip in the wet (shot of baby strapped in back seat) /a good memory / still cries at a good film / still kisses with saliva / no longer empty and frantic / like a cattied to a stick that's driven into / frozen winter shit (the ability to laugh at weakness) / calm / fitter, healthier and more productive / a pig / in a cage / on antibiotics

As we all know launchin' a label is more than difficult and we experienced lots of troubles. Dudes, the crisis in the musical industry and mainly in electronics is for real ... Concerning the release from dutch artist Darko Esser we have strong supports from Laurent Garnier, Deetron, Chloé, Raudive, DJ Hell, ... U can go & listen to the 2 tracks from darko & the rmx from Scan X on our myspace : http://www.myspace.com/signaletik
The next one will hit the stores in february with Electric rescue, boss of Skryptom, agremented with a stuning rmx by Julian Jeweil, stay tuned

R.I.P Betty Page (1923-2008)

Bettie Page, gay icon & queen of the US pin ups died last thursday in LA from a pneumonia. Suffering from a heart attack she had more than a week ago, she never woke up. A legend is gone, every teenager had one day fantasmed on this 50's pin up which largely contributed to the 60's sexual revolution. Now we have porn stars or empty brains Paris Hilton lookalike, nothing in comparaison to this queen of hearts.

U have to know

Blur are back .. but not my 20's

And so, with considerable fanfare, the mighty Blur have finally reformed. If you've kissed goodbye to your 20s, as I have, and were once partial to ringer T-shirts and hairslides, as I was, you no doubt felt delighted to see the return of a quartet whose clever pop soundtracked your first teenage fumblings, and whose simple existence turned your youth technicolour.

But here's a thing: why on earth have they reformed? The simple answer, of course, is the rumoured multimillion pound cheque from Live Nation, quite a nice little earner in these cash-strapped times.

But while many bands reform to top up their pensions, surely Blur don't need to. Damon Albarn definitely doesn't. He's been raking in the simian-shaped bills thanks to Gorillaz and Monkey: Journey To The West. Alex James has been making a mint as a Classic FM DJ and a peddler of cheese. Next to them, Graham Coxon has had a decent solo career, and Dave Rowntree, ever the oddball, has been running for parliament. All those royalties for Parklife and Song 2 will have kept the four of them afloat anyway, so perhaps, as Albarn himself says in this week's NME, there really is something for them to do again.

But when he says "we've got a reason to exist", what does he mean? I've got a few theories. Firstly, today's British indie bands, with the exception of the grand Arctic Monkeys, are a rum old lot. Kaiser Chiefs' football-chant indie has lost its match fitness, Bloc Party's post-punk has gone properly po-faced, and Razorlight are so far up their behinds they're kissing their colons. None of these bands possess a smidgeon of the creativity that Blur had, so perhaps Albarn feels that it's time to lay down the gauntlet.

Secondly, maybe Blur want us to remember how different they were to Oasis and the Verve, the only massive Britpop bands still trading their goods. While the Gallaghers regurgitate Beatles references for the trillionth time, and Richard Ashcroft confuses epic sentiment for an embarrassing whine, Blur had a career that was rich in variety. I'm not saying they're faultless – an opening chord of Stereotypes or Country House, for example, can still make my bile rise. But consider the very different pleasures of She's So High, Beetlebum and Crazy Beat, and you realise, instantly, how rich their wares were.

Finally, Blur's influence is still apparent in contemporary pop. From Lily Allen's forthcoming single, The Fear, to the Wombats' daft Christmas single, I still hear the bright, sprightly Englishness that they helped make so modern. Put all this together with the band's unassailable egos – the one feature of Blur that still blots their copy book – and is it such a surprise that they're back with us? They want to return next July in Hyde Park, like the founding fathers of the music they spawned. And after all, this is how reunion etiquette works. As Blur would put it themselves, there's no other way.

Beautiful looser part 3

After Kevin Dillon & Will Ferrel, the story goes on for the beautifull loosers. Here's one really hard to beat, Mister Maurice Moss from the british tv show on Channel 4 "The IT Crowd".

Moss is the nerdiest person you will ever meet. He has all the classic symptoms: trousers too short but worn too high, bad hair, clip-on ties, very bad hair, socially inept, an interesting variety of maths teacher check shirts, and really really bad hair. He can use more TLAs than an RFC on ICT so conversation can really make you glaze over. Moss' sense of absolute logic is unendingly funny.

Moss also possesses the incredible yet useless skill of jabbing a screwdriver into the desk between his fingers at incredible speed. One miss and he'll ruin his typing speed!

R.I.P Guy Peellaert (1934-2008)

One of the icon of the pop culture died on 17th of November of this year, Guy Peellaert achieved fame as an artist who embraced the attitudes and methods of the Pop Art movement, surrealism and psychedelia. He created iconic images of rock’n’roll stars of the 1960s and 1970s, most famously David Bowie and the Rolling Stones.
His art was exhibited in Paris, New York, London, Tokyo, Cuba, Brazil and Italy.
Peellaert made his name with Rock Dreams (1973), a collaboration with the English rock writer Nik Cohn. The book meditated on the obsessions and mythologies of rock’n’roll.
Peellaert used a mix of photography, paint and drawing manipulated into collages to accompany the surreal text. He placed some of the generation’s biggest icons, from Elvis to Bob Dylan, in fantastical, bizarre, intimate and often scandalous situations : a pink satin-tinged Jim Morrison squatting in his bath, the Rolling Stones dressed in Nazi uniforms surrounded by young girls, the Beatles having tea with the Queen ... Rock Dreams sold more than a million copies worldwide.

Peellaert’s work was in vogue. He was called upon to design album covers for stars across the globe: the Rolling Stones’ It’s Only Rock ’N Roll album and David Bowie’s Diamond Dogs LP, which depicted the musician as a grotesque mix of man and dog with genitalia that were quickly airbrushed when the record was first distributed in 1974. His reputation rapidly flourished in the US as he was commissioned, on the back of his success, to design posters for some of the biggest cult films of the 1970s including Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, starring Robert De Niro, as well as Wim Wenders’s The Wings of Desire (1987) and Robert Altman’s Short Cuts (1993).

Blaesstraat legend

Will be spinnin' records at this legendary club in Brussels on Friday 30th of January with my label pal Lutezo, another dream comes true, can't wait to be there !!!

Sex, drugs & rock n' roll

Finally on line on You Tube (and easy to find on emule) the documentary shooted in the 1972 by Robert Franck about Rolling Stones Exile On Main Street Tour (definitely my favorite LP of the band). This rockumentary was forbidden by The Stones as you have numerous scenes of heroin/cocaine taking or sex orgies in planes. Nothing but what the RS were in this period.

I'm gonna be a part of it

Will realize a dream, will be in NYC from 15th to 25th of September, let's celebrate it !

The best is to listen to it and sing it as loud as you can :

Start spreading the news, I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it - New York, New York
These vagabond shoes, are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it - New York, New York
I wanna wake up in a city, that doesn't sleep
And find Im king of the hill - top of the heap
These little town blues, are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it - in old New York
If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you - New York, New York
I want to wake up in a city, that never sleeps
And find I'm a number one, top of the list, king of the hill
A number one
These little town blues, are melting away
I'm gonna make a brand new start of it - in old New York
And if I can make it there, I'm gonna make it anywhere
It's up to you - New York, New York

Dancefloor Philosophy

I never mentioned this x-cellent blog ruled by the parisian D-i-r-t-y crew http://www.alainfinkielkrautrock.com/ . U can find tons of pepits concerning dance music (songs, mixes, itws, pixs, ...). The team sent 2 late summer mixes which blew my head, one for the dancefloors and one for the sofa

Now I know why i'm happy everyday

Scientists found that after listening to just 50 minutes of uplifting dance music, the levels of antibodies in volunteers' bodies increased.
They also found that stress hormone levels, which can weaken the immune system, decreased after being exposed to the music.
Volunteers who played a percussion instrument along with the music also benefited from the immune boost.
The researchers, from Sussex University and the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig, Germany, say their findings demonstrate how music could be used to help aid patients' recovery while in hospital.
In a separate, unpublished, study they also found that playing music while a patient was under anaesthetic during an operation also helped to lower the levels of harmful stress hormones.
Dr Ronny Enk, a neurocognition expert at the Max Planck Institute, who led the research, said: "We think the pleasant state that can be induced by music leads to special physiological changes which eventually lead to stress reduction or direct immune enhancement.
"Stress reduction probably plays an important role, but the stress reducing effect seems to be different for various types of music."
The researchers tested 300 people, asking them to listen to 50 minutes of happy, joyful dance music or to a random collection of tones.
They found that levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, decreased significantly in those listening to the dance music compared to the control group. After listening, the levels of the antibody immunoglobin A, the immune system's first line of defence, were heightened.
The researchers did not test whether different types of music would have different affects, but other studies have shown that personal preference for music can also influence the stress reducing impact it can have.
Dr Enk added: "We'd expect that different kinds of music might show different physiological and immunological effects. Not only the music itself is important but probably the personal appraisal of the listener will also be important. We did not use relaxing music, but rather exciting music that were joyful dance tunes from different centuries.
"Listening to music in hospitals might show benefits for patients and may for example lead to shorter recovery times, but we are still to test this ourselves."

Loco ? Si, mucho mas cada ano !

Back next week for the 3rd time at my favorite club in Spain : Rachdingue. Near Barcelona in the middle of the mountains this legendary club, well known during the 70's as all the international jet set (u know the real proper ones with Mick, Marianne and so on) was there to party every weekend of summer, is simply one of the most beautiful place i ever played. Designed by Salavador Dali, you can still feel the magic in the air there and the crowd is always hot and decadent. This year let's celebrate with dear friend Mathiu and his dad their 40th birthday ! Will be playin' with Blindoff certainely on the terrace, Pet Duo will be on the inside room ! Great to see u back on August 30 catalan people, I'm really lookin' forward for this night !!!

Lost in K Hole

I've always been really disapointed by movies about club culture but I think this one could be great. No better place than Berlin and no better man than Paul to play the superstar dj, as he knows exactly how to act like a cunt ... or like a great guy, depends who's in front. Hardly waitin' to check if it could be a generational movie (my generation ???) or a shit like some movies like "It's all gone Pete Tong"

In Lille lots of talents are concentrated, djs, vjs, liveacts, performers, ... here's another actor of our scene, Eric Llabres. Go & check his website ELLPROD, you'll find on it interviews and lots of video footages of parties such as Name 2007 or 10daysoff (Laurent Garnier, Ivan Smagghe, Ellen Allien, Richie Hawtin, ...). His work is impressive as it's always hard to find good & professional documents about electronic parties.

Beautifull Looser ... one more

Please consider me as a dumb guy with a pathetic sense of humor and I'll be proud of it cos' here's one of my favorite beautifull looser. Will Ferrel, formerly known for his appearances in the famous Saturday Night Live, is definitely in the club of the hilarious actors but not the french one as the majority of the movies he appeared on arrived directly on the dvd market in my France. "L'exception culturelle" only goes in one way, so why not considering Will as Underground ? Hmmm ok I push a bit too forward I know. Hav' a look on "Blades of glory", "The Legend of Ron Burgundy" or "Talladega Nights : The Ballad of Ricky Bobby", 3 masterpieces of complete mental disorder !

You used to be allright. What happened ?

07/06/08, Main Square Festival in Arras on the main place of the city, 27 000 people, a magic moment ! So great to see Radiohead again in France, the last time I saw them it was on the day of the release of Kid A. The best concert I saw in my life so for this day in north of France the level was higher than ever. I was just disappointed by 2 little mistakes on "Climbing Up Walls" and "Exit Music" but hey we're all humans ... hmm no, Thom Yorke and the whole radiohead crew are not, they're much much more than that.

A must-received for all the electronic lovers, Skrufff is definitely the best weekly e-zine you can find on web. I subscribed to it 3 or 4 years ago and i'm delighted to find it every monday in my work mailbox (so great to spend your time at work on it). Highly Brit orientated but hey who else can mix up news about metrosexual djs, K-hole cramps, medusa invasion in Ibiza and really interesting interviews of electronic major artists ?

My bristol favorite artist seems definitely back with a new album called "Knowle West Boy". 5 years after his deceiving last album, it's now time to get back in business and proper sounds. 1st single is "Council Estate" and wow i predict a big smash in our head. New direction

4 seasons running parties @ Kiosk with Dviason and some of the other week ends on the road spreading my vision of dance music. I must admit I felt a bit empty this last season, on the promoter side, noticing that the thrills were not as high as they were so it's the right time to focus on something fresh. I'm really excited about producing, and starting a collaboration with my mate Monoblok. The idea to work together emerged during a gorgeous after party at infamous Berlin Panorama Bar, expect the unexpected just as in this oh so particular place ... Monoblok is part of the Paysages Electroniques crew, boss of Rodoid netlabel and producer since more than 10 years performing live in various clubs & festivals, visit the following websites to know more about my partner in crime :

28 Rue de Wazemmes, s'il vous plaît

4th birthday of Kiosk Club this week end and it will be a hell of a party for sure ! Certainly at the image of these 4 years I spent in this club. That's amazing how this little and unfunctional place changed our life, that's where it all started for me & my pals from Dviason, our homebase, where we're sure to find friends to laugh & freak out with. I feel like home when i'm playin' there, the kind of place every dj is lookin' at to spin its favorites and try things differently than elsewhere. A second home, yes I admit it used to be that for crazy party marathon as promotor, dj and clubber, all in a shaker : try this cocktail, delicious, higly addictive, not good for the health and makes your body hurts on monday and tuesday also if you're trapped in an afterparty, but who cares ?
Will be there spinning on thursday party alongside the djs which also make this happens : Clementine, UFO, APM, Rom1, Farai, Tran, Robert Ramon, Bubble & Lutezo.

Happy Birthday buddies !

Don't miss Ivan Smagghe on Friday & Matthew Herbert on Saturday !

May, ecoute ce qui te play !

Few things really crazy this month on EPs, only 6 news which rocks me with a special mention to Florian Meindl, track of the month !. Dettmann/Klock & Boo Williams are old stuff, especially Boo : directly from 1998. The great news come on LPs with first the bad bad boy Jay Haze new album "Love & Beyond" I can't stopped to listen to this masterpiece since an entire week, each listening give a part of explainations, more to discover again. The other LP is definitely Jamie Lidell's "Jim", hav' a look on previous news and video clip.

Otis, Marvin and Jim

I saw Otis Redding 2 weeks ago in a little concert room in Lille, he changed a lot, now he's white, english, wearin' glasses, a white suit and OH MY GOD he's usin' machines and releasin' stuff on Warp ! More seriously Jamie Lidell confirms that he's definitely a genius, never an artist impressed me so much with its musical orientation. Alone or with Christian Vogel as Super Collider he changed the electronic scene with futuristic releases and 2 years ago he blasted me with its surpising electro soul LP "Multiply" .This year he's comin' back with "Jim", still and much more in this vein. Otis, Marvin, don't worry guys, the beat is still up and at its top. Here' s the clip of his new single "Another Day". Stand up on your chair or your desk and shake that ass !

Afterhour scenario

May playlist arrived soon with lots of new hot stuff but lookin' for fresh blood makes me sometimes passed through unmisssable treasure. I missed this one at its issue, weird as the casting were really promising, Marcel Dettmann & Ben Klock, boys from Berghain together for a killer double pack LP on hip berlin based label Ostgut Ton. I fixed this error last week and I must admit that all tunes found an echo in me and inspired me. Austere, clinical, dark, wow it's all what we need to burn our head and the floor !

Back in Belgium

Living near Belgium is fun for a party addict, huge & respected clubs, crazy line ups, cheap booze, drugs everywhere and certainly the strongest club culture in the world. Every week end party people cross this country from part to part, cruisin' the best parties, you know the one where at 00' people scream and already burn the floor ! In the past I sometimes felt more belgian than french, havin' fantastic times as a party animal in this country with so many friends means a lot to me, my love for electronic beats is linked to Belgium. Everything starts there, my passion, my culture, my vision of partyin', ... everything which brought together a selektor and a pussy. That's why I always feel a bit of a pressure when I play there, not the same pressure I had lots of time crossin' the borders but not so far hé hé. So that will be the 5th times I play in Brussels, all the previous times were amazing so if you're near come and say hi. WOM parties seems great, the promoters are real passionate, it's their 3rd edition and with Sebo K and Lust Addict as precedent headliners I feel really confident. And most of all be prepared I'm back with strong insane pepits !

Sometimes I cry ...

Here it is, my favorite scene of my favorite movie, Sergio Leone's "Once upon a time in America". I could play this shot ever and ever and ever and cry each time watchin'it. It's all about innocence and youth. Add to it the main theme by Ennio Morricone and you have a cut touched by the grace.

Party hard

Another slammin' night @ Kiosk with the lads of Dviason. For this edition let's welcome the fresh guys from Get The Curse.

"Go to the past, but look to the future, don't get bogged down in the present" - Andrew Weatherall

A quote that pretty much sums up what Get The Curse is all about : swim against the stream to seek for REAL trouble, whether it comes from 1982 or 2009.

Get The Curse means facedown in filth and not zombie shopping, total sickness and not MP3 Wal-Mart.

Get The Curse is a decadent bunch of sassy Parisian sporting bizarre monikers (Clems, Ed, Lelo, Mikhail et Oli) , a very personal sense of elegance and mastering the most obscure codes of a somewhat jackin' art-de-vivre.

Get The Curse is punishment rather than Justice, Get The Curse is voodoo fighting and Muscle & Hate, but it's also pure emotion delivered Ten Times Faster Than The Speed Of Love, an Hacienda of love for the unloved, a 24/7 hi-standard restroom for house criminals and electro fugitives, a place built in the inmost depths of the darkest warehouse, where late-night terror tracks reverberate on sweaty walls, bouncing on a congregation of misfits, raising arms for a druggy rimshot, eyes closed and jaws locked tight.

No future ...

Really cool movie found on my bros' blog, just follow your dreams, yeah just act now !

Assault on Precinct 13

Definitely one of the best movies ever made , the word "tension" takes all its sense with this John Carpenter's masterpiece. The soundtrack is also incredible with the main title "The End". Go & learn more about this genius :

Rave On & On & On

Want me to talk about my nightlife, Jarvis Cocker already made it a few years ago

Oh is this the way they say the future's meant to feel?
Or just 20,000 people standing in a field.
And I don't quite understand just what this feeling is.
But that's okay cos we're all sorted out for E's and wizz.
And tell me when the spaceship lands cos all this has just got to mean something.

In the middle of the night,
it feels alright,
but then tommorow morning.
Oh then you come down.

Oh yeah the pirate radio told us what was going down.
Got the tickets from some fucked up bloke in Camden Town.
Oh and no-one seems to know exactly where it is.
But that's okay cos we're all sorted out for E's and wizz.
At 4 o'clock the normal world seems very, very, very far away.
Alright.

In the middle of the night,
it feels alright,
but then tommorow morning.
Oh then you come down.

Just keep on moving...
Everybody asks your name,
they say we're all the same and it's "nice one,"
"geezer"
but that's as far as the conversation went.
I lost my friends, I dance alone,
it's six o'clock, I wanna go home.
But it's "no way," "not today,"
makes you wonder what it meant.
And this hollow feeling grows and grows and grows and grows,
and you want to phone your mother and say,
"Mother, I can never come home again,
cos I seem to have left an important part of my brain somewhere,
somewhere in a field in Hampshire."
Alright.

In the middle of the night,
it feels alright,
but then tommorow morning.
Oh then you come down.

What if you never come down?

Lyrics : Jarvis Cocker from Pulp Lp "Different Class"

Let's get WILD

Some people have a list of things to do in their life like jumpin' from an airplane or havin' a threesome. My own list reduced every year as I try to live my life intensively but there was a goal which stayed at the top of it since a long time : playin' in Berlin !
It's soon time to erase it as my friends from Les paysages Electroniques invited me to play at the famous Maria Am Ufer. It was the 1st club I visited in this crazy city some years ago, dark, massive and with an explosive crowd. Can't wait to be behind the decks spinnin' for the berliners and all the friends who'll make the trip with me. Also great to play again alongside Housemeister and with Lille's artists such as Genjini & Afrojaws. And to finish the party expect us at Panorama Bar ! Gonna be a wild week end !

Track of the month

March playlist will soon be on line but I've no doubt concerning my favorite EP : "Hui Buh" on the berlin based platform Lebensfreude. You may have already noticed this label with the releases of Ruede Hageslstein with the great project "Dog vs Dog". This time the fire walks with Jakob Seidensticker & Lexgold who made a fantastic track, hard to describe as it covers lots of styles, dub, techno, electro. Can't wait to play it and blow the mind of the audience by spinning it ! Listen to it on the duo myspace hereunder.

Beautiful looser ... part 2

Another lost hero which disapeared so early but hey that's just the way it is baby. Patrick Dewaere is probably one of the most talented actor of the french cinema. Even 20 years after its dead this man is still in my mind when I think about actor's studio monsters such as Al Pacino or Robert De Niro. It seems that the term "borderline" was made for him, mixing his real life to his actor game he lost himself through it.

Have a look on this extract of "Serie Noire" from Alain Corneau, a trip into the darkest part of man's soul in a world of fascinating loosers.

There was a time ... No Future

There was a time when punk was at its top, 1977, the year of my birth. Never thought that it was an interesting time concerning music but what happened just after was definitely ! “Rip It Up And Start Again” explains brilliantly these post punk times. Written by an ex Melody Maker journalist, Simon Reynolds, here’s the perfect description of what succeeded to the punk storm from 1978 to 1984. The beginnings of John Lydon alone with PIL, the US industrials Devo & Pere Ubu, the changes in the british music industry with Mute & Do It Yourself, the arty scene with Talking Heads & Wire, all the bands from Sheffield & Manchester, Throbbing Gristle, the No Wave NY scene, New Pop, Synthpop … everything you always wanted to know about this period is filled in this great book which will make you go back into your discography and also discovered things you’ll never supposed to exist ! One advice : Go & buy it ... or steal it ! That would sticks perfectly with the suject !

"Ils se droguent ? bon bah c'est du rock !"

Nowadays in France we live a strange situation, you may hav' noticed if u're abroad, we have a president, Nicolas Sarkozy who is qualified of "bling bling". Never thought we'll be in this situation. The worst is that the press is getting completely mad about him and more precisely of his private life. Today an interview of his new bling bling wife was published in "L'express", I read it one minute ago and i thought that France is really turning wrong. Hopefully there's one man who understands everything ... our savior, enjoy !

Pale blue eyes ... full of tears

Sad sad sad news, just after the fantastic story of Jerome Kerviel here's another great one from the financial area. I do think it's even worst than the Societe Generale scandal cos' it touched one of my teenage idol, just read this ... and cry on the gool old rock n' roll

For once this article is not in english as it was written by Nathalie Leruch

Nathalie Leruch

Taste the snails !

One of the main reason which made me want to throw parties was to share a good dinner with some of my heroes. Havin' the time to exchange about music & life and sometimes discoverin' really touching guys. One of the man I had a very special time with is Billy Nasty. He came to visit us on December 1st 07 for a Dviason night and blow our headz with a crazy set and a crazy "coup de fourchette" as we said here. Being in France makes it easier as we've definitely the best food in the world and as real frenchies we're always proud to offer a great meal to our guests and believe me it's fun to make taste some snails to a brit pal ! Billy we want u back !

Here are recordings of this Dviason night, Billy played from 3 to 5'30 and then we played back to back with Lutezo till the end (expect dark minimal from us at this kind of hour ...)

"L'underground c'est ce que le politiquement correct saccage. Savoir faire un pas de côté, se risquer à faire ce que l'époque ne prend pas en compte." Jean François Bizot. RIP

A very special mix from Ivan Smagghe and Tim Paris, now based in London with another great french producer Danton Eeprom. They fomed together the "bancale bancale" studio, let's hope some genius stuff. They will be at rex Club on 2nd of february, so do I !

Batcave Groove

Gorgeous footage by Lidia Terki of Chloe "Be Kind To Me", from her debut LP "The Waiting Room".
Electronic music on album format is most of the time boring, only few tracks to really get mad on, no coherency, no story to tell but Chloé definitely did it brillantly !
You can only fall in love with this bancal electronic folk, right from Kill The Dj, 2 steps ahead in the mental and deviant groove !

God Only Knows

It's well known that all alone you're nothing except a selfish cunt. Nobody to tell you when you're wrong, nobody to rest your head on its loving shoulder, nobody to share your joy and desilusions with, nobody, ...

Next tuesday it will makes 9 years I'm with the girl I love. We spent our 20's together and now we're entering the 30's, the love affair goes on !

No better way to describe my feelings that the best love song ever : "God Only Knows" from Beach Boys' Pet Sounds album, still makes my heart bleeds at every listening

"I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
Ill make you so sure about it

God only knows what I'd be without you

If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me

God only knows what I'd be without you"

Spleen from The Hague

Hard time for the vynil junks, winter break for the distributors, perfect time to look back into your cherished collection. On your marks, get set, go !

1st step : Weep the dust, throw the empty botlles of biers, clear the numerous ashtrays, reals and improvised ones.
2nd step : fill the right plates in the right covers, possibility of freaking out on that point realising you lost some of your treasures but don't worry at the end of the cleaning you'll find them back.
3rd step : Yeah ! Listening time ! Fuck the neighbourhood !

Here's my rediscover, "Holographic Voice", a fabulous track made by dutch producer based in The Hague I-F, with Nancy Fortune on the vocals

http://www.djdownload.com/mp3-detail/I-F+ft+Nancy+Fortune/Holographic+Voice/Ghostly+International/300515

Released in 2002 on the Tangent : Disco Nouveau compilation of excellent US label Ghostly International, another track touched by the grace of darkism, full of aridity and only danceable suggestively in slow motion.

Impossible to mention I-F without speaking of one of the best webradio of the world, fans of the dutch electro sound, IDM & Italo Disco here's a pepit for you :

Turn SM with the VU

"Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather, Whiplash girlchild in the dark"

The Velvet Underground, my all time favorite band, the soundtrack of my teenage wet dreams.
Here's a famous remark, often attributed to british genius Brian Eno : "while only a few thousand people bought the first Velvet Underground record upon its release, almost every single one of them was inspired to start a band".

1 good reason to become a dj

There are lots of reasons for becoming a dj, as we're on my personal blog and as I want it to be honest & personal i'll give you one of mine (hopefully i have others) : revenge on guitar players !
Maybe you already experienced this situation : bein' around a fire camp, cruisin' a girl to spend the night with, findin' one, talkin' & laughin' with her about things you're not interested in but hey that's the game. Hour after hour your masterplan is set up, you get closer to her, you see in her moves and her eyes that something's happenin' and then ... this motherfuckin' guitar player starts to play !!! Always the same crap songs from Nirvana, Led Zep, Telephone, ... Everybody's singin' except you as you noticed the changes in the attitude of your "supposed to be" nightlove which is now hooked to the pale copy of Kurt Cobain. Crazy how a guitar makes people look beautifull ... so it's the same thing with turntables ! Time for a revenge !

NB : look at the TREX cover from his awesome album "Electric Warrior", does it remind you something ? Yes the Justice album, hmmmm copycat !

Fear & Loathing in club backstages

There was a time I used to do interviews & vynil reviews for the famous belgian website http://www.theclubbing.com/. Reading it 3-4 years after they were realised was really fun to me so let's bring them from the crypt.

I sometimes feel in the skin of the regretted Hunter S. Thompson, creator of the gonzo journalism especially one time. Arriving at a crazy night with my pals, drinkin' champagne & vodka, partyin' and OH NO takin' an E as the itw was scheduled at the end of the party, but it was not ... 15 minutes after I was in a full light room with Laurent Garnier ... still laughing at it !

To check all the interviews go to :

Featuring : Luciano, Anthony Rother, Basti from Tiefschwarz, The Hacker & Oxia, Darren Price, Electric Indigo, Scan X, Spacid, Miss Kittin, Spacid, The Penelopes, Angel Molina, Terence Fixmer, Rolando, Miss Kittin, ... & Laurent Garnier.

Track of the decade

Few songs make you feel like home, "Fool of the new city" by Hamburg producers Ego Express is one of those.
Listening to a tune which was made for you, describing perfectly what you got inside of you, and how you want the music to be is a great but strange feeling. Younger i had the gooseflesh on songs like "Sunday morning" from The Velvet Underground or "Strawberry Fields Forever" from the Fab Four and since 3 years i have my personal electronic anthem. First heard on a fabulous dj mix by Ivan Smagghe & Chloé called "The dysfunctional family", bought instantly on ebay as it was already hard to find, Ladomat label never repressed it, that's the vinyl which never quits my flightcase & my thoughts.

You don't want to be like everybody else ? Warning, could be addictive : http://www.mbeat.de/catalog/egoexpress-everybody-p-8587.html

Wanna see u scream !

It's been a while my partner in crime Lutezo & I wanted to spin records together for a long long long session. Sharing our love for dark atmosphere and shooting to the other "hey you don't have this one, shaaaame".

Our insane vj, Blindoff, will also be there semi naked and protected him from our radioactive beats with its bloody mask. He's back from Pixel Festival & Rachdingue in Spain, full of new visuals, get prepared.

So the party promised to be wild in your head, ears & eyes.

If you never came to the freshly opened new club in Lille, Le Sonic, here's a good reason, great place to discover and which fits perfectly with cheek to cheek dancing and I know lots of you like that !

When a dream comes true

Remembering all the feelings i had in my several trips to Berlin, i had a moment in mind : 8am, eyes closed, arms in the air, my body wavin' & shakin' to the sounds of minimal techno and thinkin' one day I'll play Here. This time has come, I'll be rockin' the Maria on March 21st thanks to my pals from Zelabo and believe me the line up of this night promised to be awesome. More infos soon ...

Other dates to be announced in Barcelona, Paris, Bruxelles, Bordeaux & Lille

Beautiful looser

Everybody's got an icon and on this sunday only one man comes to my mind, Johnny Chase ! To be a star at any price, waking up with only one thing in mind : to be at the top of the poster, acting like a tough guy not a pussy. Our hero of the week is a Cable Award winning actor, yeah you read it well buddies. In the 90s he was on televisions ... 1 daytime action-adventure star on cable. But with success came excess, Drama had to retire for a number of years to battle personal demons. Luckily he's currently enjoying a career resurrection, always looking to get "back in the game". An avid cook, Drama also manages to find time to work on his golf game whenever possible. Check the incredible show called "Entourage" on HBO, Drama is THE man !

One of those beautiful looser which makes life smarter, victory ! When will I be famous ? A major question of those times (yeah I know at "Bros" times also !)

How to live in 2008 ?
