Great news from our friends from Fluctuat, the best cultural website on earth : Haven't heard of them since 2007 & the stunning rmx of Radio Slave of "Hold My Hand" but it seems that some new stuff from Unkle will soon be released. Still James lavelle at the head of it accompanied with Pablo Clements (The Psychonauts), James Griffith, Matt Pierce, Mike Lowry (from Lake Trout), Joel Cadbury (South) & Gavin Clark (Clayhill). 9 tracks already ok, can't wait for it !

Yaka danser
Here's a party which promised to be really hot, an after of after in the city of Montpellier, which is without any doubt one of the craziest place for the everlasting parties. Will make the trip with Czesky, more known as boss of Kiosk Club and with whom I have lots of bookings scheduled abroad in the upcoming months. See u there we'll spin on sunday night.
Yaka Route de Palavas Sortie Menestrelle 34000 Montpellier
Feel like home
In my young dj days I made a promise to myself : not to play in the bars ! To be a bar-dj is something I can't understand because you can't really play the music you want, the sound is not really loud and the people are here to have a drink or to chat and not for dancing, so there's no real pleasure to play.
The only exception I make is for the AtHome Café in Lille, it's in the city where I lived so it's easy and it's a great way to please my pals from here. I can share the turntable with a friend of my choice which is a great thing and most of all it's a bar dedicated to the electronic sounds with a great team and a boss I like to party with !
So see u there this friday, I'll play with my dear friend Pix from Alt_R from 7pm till 2

Licensed to kill the dancefloor
You may have noticed that it's rare on this blog to get djset to download, weird for a dj as I am but it could be explained easily by the fact that I listened a lot of livesets but really few blow my mind. Lookin' into the previous posts I only find a Pan Pot one and a Mindphone one. Once again, this guy I do consider as my belgian alter ego drop a real bomb and honored me by selected our latest track with Monoblok : "Straighthead". U're the one dude !

Something 'bout thos little pills
THEY called it the second summer of love. Twenty years ago, young people all over the world donned T-shirts emblazoned with smiley faces and danced all night, fuelled by a molecule called MDMA. Most of these clubbers have since given up ecstasy and are sliding into middle age. The question is, has ecstasy given up on them?
Enough time has finally elapsed to start asking if ecstasy damages health in the long term. According to the biggest review ever undertaken, it causes slight memory difficulties and mild depression, but these rarely translate into problems in the real world. While smaller studies show that some individuals have bigger problems, including weakened immunity and larger memory deficits, so far, for most people, ecstasy seems to be nowhere near as harmful over time as you may have been led to believe.

When we were young
Definitely one of the best shows i've ever watched. Kids from Bristol in UK, their lives, their doubts & their relationships. All the mainthemes of the teenagers are treated as they should have always been, religion, drugs, death, homosexuality, love, ... All the actors play so just that's incredible, we're really really far of bullshits like "Save by the bell" !!!

Signaletik is in da place
So happy, after the digital release 15 days ago our 1st EP is now available on the vinyl format in all good shops ! Still strong supports from the techno scene, it seems that our release is hammered by some of the best djs !
Another good news, the 2nd EP is now available in streaming on our myspace page : http://www.myspace.com/signaletik.
Electric Rescue, boss of french label Skryptom delivered us 2 killer tracks, and as a cherry on the cake Julian Jeweil blew our mind with a remix which will certainely be played everywhere. Go to our myspace to listen to it, we hope to be in stores in February, stay tuned. Hereunder the release sheet :
After Darko Esser, the french label Signaletik Records persevere in a rude and dynamic techno sound by welcoming one of the proudest representant of the french electronic scene : Electric Rescue.
Boss of the infamous Parisian label, Skryptom, he offered us a definitely different and massive sound than usual with 2 exclusive tracks : « Rave Toy » & « Skull of the pirate ».
“Rave Toy” is a flashback in the 90’s illegal warehouse parties which ER attempted to and which forged his vision of electronic music. It’s definitely this culture which is reactualized here and remember on these days the smile(y) was the norm. A heavy and powerful kick, a snoring bass line, trippy synths and hedonistic breaks, at Signaletik Records office we all went up on our speakers and we sent our trainee in search of whistles.
Julian Jeweil, another real hope of France dance scene, signed a nervous and federator remix, a toy which is not to be put in innocent hands.
“Skull of the pirate”, just the time to sponge your forehead and change of T-shirt, Electric Rescue & Signaletik Records will hit with damages the dancefloors attracted by the dark and saturated ambience. In the same vein than “Rave Toy” this track under acid and full of synths will start the hostilities without any doubt, tented face, black glance and aggressiveness ready to destroy everything on its way. There will be no prisoners in the techno freaks community.

No Fun
What a sad day, Ron Asheton, guitarist of The Stooges was found dead yesterday at home. This 60 years old genius was voted by Rolling Stones magazine 29th best guitarist of all times, true as he wrote some of the greatest riffs of rock n'roll in songs like "No Fun", "I Wanna Be Your Dog" & "TV Eye". Founded in 1967 in Detroit, The Stooges splitted in 1974 to reformed in 2003 for a new album which hitted the stores in 2007
The other bad news is about Florian Schneider, cofounder of Kraftwerk who announced last monday that he left the band. No reason given, Ralf will be alone now on stage.
Let's hope Paul Mc Cartney & Ringo Starr are doing fine ...

Year of reason ?
I was lookin' for a special thing for the start of the year to put on the blog, I could say that 2008 was good for me, lots of good things, gigs, crazy parties, nice encounters, launching of a label, some tracks on their way, a trip in NYC and ... a baby which is comin'. With all of that why not being positive ? Because it's simply not in my nature, as u know for me dark & weird are the keys.
So i decided to take the same comment as last year, it was the 1st one as I start this blog 1 year ago, 112 messages after i'm still there so just follow these nice advices from Thom & its crew
fitter / happier / more productive /comfortable / not drinking too much / regular exercise at the gym (3 days a week) / getting on better with your associate employee contemporaries / at ease /eating well (no more microwave dinners and saturated fats) / a patient better driver / a safer car (baby smiling in back seat) / sleeping well (no bad dreams) / no paranoia / careful to all animals (never washing spiders down the plughole) / keep in contact with old friends (enjoy a drink now and then) / will frequently check credit at (moral) bank (hole in wall) / favours for favours / fond but not in love / charity standing orders / on sundays ring road supermarket / (no killing moths or putting boiling water on the ants) / car wash (also on sundays) / no longer afraid of the darkor midday shadows / nothing so ridiculously teenage and desperate / nothing so childish /at a better pace / slower and more calculated / no chance of escape / now self-employed / concerned (but powerless) /an empowered and informed member of society (pragmatism not idealism) / will not cry in public / less chance of illness / tires that grip in the wet (shot of baby strapped in back seat) /a good memory / still cries at a good film / still kisses with saliva / no longer empty and frantic / like a cattied to a stick that's driven into / frozen winter shit (the ability to laugh at weakness) / calm / fitter, healthier and more productive / a pig / in a cage / on antibiotics

Here we are, our 1st Signaletik EP is in digital stores since December 19th and available in vinyl on the 10th of January. Concerning the release from dutch artist Darko Esser we have strong supports from Laurent Garnier, Deetron, Chloé, Raudive, DJ Hell, ... U can go & listen to the 2 tracks from darko & the rmx from Scan X on our myspace : http://www.myspace.com/signaletik
The next one will hit the stores in february with Electric rescue, boss of Skryptom, agremented with a stuning rmx by Julian Jeweil, stay tuned

R.I.P Betty Page (1923-2008)
Bettie Page, gay icon & queen of the US pin ups died last thursday in LA from a pneumonia. Suffering from a heart attack she had more than a week ago, she never woke up. A legend is gone, every teenager had one day fantasmed on this 50's pin up which largely contributed to the 60's sexual revolution. Now we have porn stars or empty brains Paris Hilton lookalike, nothing in comparaison to this queen of hearts.

Blur are back .. but not my 20's
And so, with considerable fanfare, the mighty Blur have finally reformed. If you've kissed goodbye to your 20s, as I have, and were once partial to ringer T-shirts and hairslides, as I was, you no doubt felt delighted to see the return of a quartet whose clever pop soundtracked your first teenage fumblings, and whose simple existence turned your youth technicolour.
But here's a thing: why on earth have they reformed? The simple answer, of course, is the rumoured multimillion pound cheque from Live Nation, quite a nice little earner in these cash-strapped times.
But while many bands reform to top up their pensions, surely Blur don't need to. Damon Albarn definitely doesn't. He's been raking in the simian-shaped bills thanks to Gorillaz and Monkey: Journey To The West. Alex James has been making a mint as a Classic FM DJ and a peddler of cheese. Next to them, Graham Coxon has had a decent solo career, and Dave Rowntree, ever the oddball, has been running for parliament. All those royalties for Parklife and Song 2 will have kept the four of them afloat anyway, so perhaps, as Albarn himself says in this week's NME, there really is something for them to do again.
But when he says "we've got a reason to exist", what does he mean? I've got a few theories. Firstly, today's British indie bands, with the exception of the grand Arctic Monkeys, are a rum old lot. Kaiser Chiefs' football-chant indie has lost its match fitness, Bloc Party's post-punk has gone properly po-faced, and Razorlight are so far up their behinds they're kissing their colons. None of these bands possess a smidgeon of the creativity that Blur had, so perhaps Albarn feels that it's time to lay down the gauntlet.
Secondly, maybe Blur want us to remember how different they were to Oasis and the Verve, the only massive Britpop bands still trading their goods. While the Gallaghers regurgitate Beatles references for the trillionth time, and Richard Ashcroft confuses epic sentiment for an embarrassing whine, Blur had a career that was rich in variety. I'm not saying they're faultless – an opening chord of Stereotypes or Country House, for example, can still make my bile rise. But consider the very different pleasures of She's So High, Beetlebum and Crazy Beat, and you realise, instantly, how rich their wares were.
Finally, Blur's influence is still apparent in contemporary pop. From Lily Allen's forthcoming single, The Fear, to the Wombats' daft Christmas single, I still hear the bright, sprightly Englishness that they helped make so modern. Put all this together with the band's unassailable egos – the one feature of Blur that still blots their copy book – and is it such a surprise that they're back with us? They want to return next July in Hyde Park, like the founding fathers of the music they spawned. And after all, this is how reunion etiquette works. As Blur would put it themselves, there's no other way.

Beautiful looser part 3
After Kevin Dillon & Will Ferrel, the story goes on for the beautifull loosers. Here's one really hard to beat, Mister Maurice Moss from the british tv show on Channel 4 "The IT Crowd".
Moss is the nerdiest person you will ever meet. He has all the classic symptoms: trousers too short but worn too high, bad hair, clip-on ties, very bad hair, socially inept, an interesting variety of maths teacher check shirts, and really really bad hair. He can use more TLAs than an RFC on ICT so conversation can really make you glaze over. Moss' sense of absolute logic is unendingly funny.
Moss also possesses the incredible yet useless skill of jabbing a screwdriver into the desk between his fingers at incredible speed. One miss and he'll ruin his typing speed!
The life of an IT dpt in Reynholm Industries. Hilarious & so brit' !

The jarv' is still the jarv'
“You make it, and you're bathing in champagne and you can snort as much cocaine as you want and fuck as many beautiful women as you want. Then you find you can do those things, but they don't actually make you very happy.” (Guardian)

So young, so gone
Amazing 1st LP, inventive video, Friendly Fires could be the band of 2008 without any doubt, it's fresh, uncomplexed, as the music should always be !

R.I.P Guy Peellaert (1934-2008)
One of the icon of the pop culture died on 17th of November of this year, Guy Peellaert achieved fame as an artist who embraced the attitudes and methods of the Pop Art movement, surrealism and psychedelia. He created iconic images of rock’n’roll stars of the 1960s and 1970s, most famously David Bowie and the Rolling Stones.
His art was exhibited in Paris, New York, London, Tokyo, Cuba, Brazil and Italy.
Peellaert made his name with Rock Dreams (1973), a collaboration with the English rock writer Nik Cohn. The book meditated on the obsessions and mythologies of rock’n’roll.
Peellaert used a mix of photography, paint and drawing manipulated into collages to accompany the surreal text. He placed some of the generation’s biggest icons, from Elvis to Bob Dylan, in fantastical, bizarre, intimate and often scandalous situations : a pink satin-tinged Jim Morrison squatting in his bath, the Rolling Stones dressed in Nazi uniforms surrounded by young girls, the Beatles having tea with the Queen ... Rock Dreams sold more than a million copies worldwide.
Peellaert’s work was in vogue. He was called upon to design album covers for stars across the globe: the Rolling Stones’ It’s Only Rock ’N Roll album and David Bowie’s Diamond Dogs LP, which depicted the musician as a grotesque mix of man and dog with genitalia that were quickly airbrushed when the record was first distributed in 1974. His reputation rapidly flourished in the US as he was commissioned, on the back of his success, to design posters for some of the biggest cult films of the 1970s including Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, starring Robert De Niro, as well as Wim Wenders’s The Wings of Desire (1987) and Robert Altman’s Short Cuts (1993).
